George was about 40 years old when he
came to America in the Mary & John with some, but
not all, of his family. He became a
freeman March 4, 1632 and a member of the Select Board
of Dorchester, MA from 1633 to 1636. He
was a representative of Dorchester to the First General
Court at Boston on May 14, 1634. in
1637 he removed to Windsor, CT, and is said to have
helped lay out the towns of Windsor and
Hartford, being somewhat of a surveyor. He was
Deputy to the General Court from
Windsro from 1637 to 1646 and in 1647 followed Roger
Ludlow to Fairfield, having sold his
home at Windsor to Governor John Haynes. George
continued his political career in
Fairfield as Representative in 1648 and 1649, and was Ludlow's
assistant in military operations. In
1651, 1653, and 1654, George served as an Assistant
Magistrate for the towns "by the
seaside", his duties including to "marry persons and press
horses for the public Welfare."
