Misc. Notes
“*John Tucker emigrated from England to the American Colonies, probably on the ship Hector, arriving in Boston in 1637. He was a puritan, and was known as "Captain John". After visiting friends in Boston for a time, he moved to New Haven, Connecticut where he worked for a company making machinery used in the iron mines in the vicinity. The company sent him to Long Island, New York to buy property, and we find him living there in 1655. During this time he changed the spelling of his name to Tooker, probably for reasons of pronunciation. In 1670 the New Haven Company offered land to Captain John in appreciation of his services, and he chose 50 acres near Fort Jefferson. “
