Notes for Peter Montgomery
Planter, very extensive land holdings in Charles County, Maryland "Information from research and historical data gathered by Thomas and Ellen Burke Montgomery, descendants of Charles W. Montgomery, a descendant from the first of our line Peter Montgomery. In an index of immigrants compiled from records of land patents 1633-1680 by Gust Skorday, list Ann Montgomery transported 1659. It is believed she may have been a relative of our Peter as it shows later where William Boarman Sr. made deed of gift of 250 acres of "Ann's Delight" then occupied by Peter Montgomery. It is believed that William Boarman's wife may have been Ann Montgomery. The Boarman manor consisted of 3333 acres granted to Boarman. It is also believed that Ann may have made arrangements for Peter and his 2 sons to be transported from France prior to 1712. Peter along with his 2 minor sons John Baptiste and Francis were naturalized October 20, 1727 (others 10/28/1727). In Peter's will: he left property to Francis and John his first sons; and to Peter and Richard and others. There is no mention of Elisha or Benjamin unless these were the second (middle) names of Peter & Richard. Peter made deposition on Dec. 29, 1736 concerning the boundaries at Boarman Manor & Boarman Reserve. He stated that about twenty years ago Abraham LeMasters showed him a bounded tree of these boundaries. Peter owned land in Maryland called "Monmouth" totaling 460 acres, and maybe other property. In 1726 he purchased from William Newman 336 acres." Gayle Ellingsworth 502-267-1020 Gayle Ellingsworth <grannygayle@unidial.com>
