Notes for Martin Yates | ||||||
Sun, 29 Nov 1998 22:42:48 -0800 "James D. Brewer" <noahltl@concentric.net> MARTIN YATES SR. in a deposition states that he is 49 years old in 1715 marries Elizabeth (probably Clark) about 1695 in MD. Holds land in common with Edward Clark. "To be held of the Manor of West St. Mary's: Possessors: 202 acres - Edward Clark, 140 acres - Martin Yates. Martin Yates is called a kinsman of Richard Walker in 1698, and in Richard's will, he calls Martin Yates and Edward Clarke, his friends. Martin Yates born about 1666 in England, left a will in which he is called an "innholder" in St. Mary's Co. The will was probated 23 April 1724. Children: William, b) 1698, MARTIN b)1700, Thomas b) 1703, John b) 1705, Alexious or Elextious b) 1707 Date of Elizabeth's death unknown. ------------------- Parents - no sources - Jill Esterle <mesterle@iquest.net> ______________________ MARTIN YATES is called a kinsman of RICHARD WALKER in Deposition Liber 7, folio 386, in 1698. MARTIN YATES and EDWARD CLARK are spoken of as "friends" in the will of RICHARD WALKER, Liber 7, Folio 385, Annapolis, May 11, 1698. MARTIN YATES became possessor of part of "Turvey" in September, 1673 at age 7. Certificate for "Turvey" is in Liber 17, Folio 525, 5 Sept 1673: EDWARD CLARK, by virtue of a warrant issued out of his Lordship's Secretary's office unto EDWARD CLARK bearing date July 26, 1673. Myself and several other Yates researchers have long felt that MARTIN YATES wife ELIZABETH, m) 1695, was actually ELIZABETH CLARK, but have never found proof or connections. From the ages, dates and times, we have surmised that she was possibly a daughter of EDWARD CLARK. Jim Brewer ------------------------------ Sun, 13 Dec 1998 09:10:46 -0700 "Jerry L. Clark" <clark4@itsnet.com> Dear Researchers: Mary McCauley sent me this and I think Donnelley may be correct. Anyone care to give their comments: Jerry, Forgive me if I've jumped into the middle of this blind, because I haven't been following the Yates posts, but the mention of Shircliffe in your last one is what caught my eye. Your favorite genealogist ;- ) Donnelly has Martin Yates married to Elizabeth Dabridgecourt, daughter of Ann Shircliffe Clarke Dabridgecourt Walker. I don't recall which of her books has this, off the top of my head. Mary | ||||||
