Notes for Fedelia J. Conrow
Also listed as Conaro - see death record. 1855 Census (see Valentine Martin) lists birthplace as Schoharie County; death record lists as Jefferson County, New York. Conrow, Jacob and Margaret may be Fedelia's parents. Or, Elizabeth and John - perhaps more likely per names. per death record, Jacob and ?

Notes for Valentine (Spouse 1)
Parents are presumed from the following facts: 1840 census the children and parents fit exactly into age brackets except for (1) William who is listed as 60-70 when should be per 1850 census 70-80 and (2) Charlotte and Charles who were listed as 15-20 and not 10-15, but there is only a one year difference. This is easily explained by the possibility that the 1840 census was taken after their birthday and the 1850 census before. Valentine, who would have been 16, is presumed to be the male listed as 15-20. This William Martin is the only William Martin in Schoharie County with a male household member the correct age. Of the other Martins in the area (+- 3 pages on census), William is the only one with a male household member 15-20. In 1850, Valentine is not listed, as he is in Gilboa with his wife Fedelia. In 1855, Eve Martin, found in 1850 with William, Charlotte, Charles and Lucinda, lives next door to Valentine and Fedelia in Gilboa with Charles and Charlotte. We know that Charlotte and Charles are the daughter and son of Eve per the 1855 census. From this, I conclude that this William is Valentine's father. It could be that he is his grandfather, but I lean toward father. However, it is probably William's second marriage. Valentine is thought to be perhaps named after Valentine Effner who married the daughter Elizabeth of William (not this one) the immigrant. Valentine Effner is reported to have been an officer in the War of 1812 and a member of Congress.
